Info-Work: Construction update: Change to hours of Work

July 12, 2021, Peterborough, ON – Parks Canada would like to notify the public of a change to the hours of work at the project to replace the Scotts Mills Dam, south of Lansdowne St. in Peterborough. The dam plays an integral role in regulating upstream and downstream water levels in the City of Peterborough (including Little Lake), to achieve a variety of objectives such as the mitigation of flooding, the protection of the environment and ensuring safe navigation.

For the first two years of the project, contractors were instructed to work within the hours of 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., inclusive of weekends, with a variety of noise levels allowed at different times. Some schedule slippage occurred in the initial phase of the project as the contractor adjusted their construction approach to better suit the site conditions. In addition to many strategies that the contractor has already introduced to reduce delays associated with this slippage, Parks Canada will allow the addition of an extra work shift, with the project completion timeline remaining the same (spring 2022). This will mean an extension of work hours for non-heavy construction noise of the following:

Daily: 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. - activities generating non-heavy construction noise only
Monday – Saturday: 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. – heavy noise generating activities
Sunday: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. – heavy noise generating activities
Daily: 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. - activities generating non-heavy construction noise only

With this change in work hours, construction is expected to conclude in spring 2022, with restoration to follow that summer; without the change, the project would continue until at least summer 2023. Parks Canada is thankful the public’s patience and understanding during this critical construction project.
