Info-Work: Boundary Road Swing Bridge Construction Update

Trent-Severn Waterway National Historic Site

November 7, 2022, Peterborough, Ontario – Parks Canada advises that the Boundary Road Swing Bridge project is on hold until further notice.

Following a re-tender of the project this past summer, the response from the industry was limited, and only one bid met the technical criteria established in the solicitation. Unfortunately, this one compliant bid price submission exceeded available project funding and was much higher than any recent, comparable swing bridge replacement project that we have undertaken on the Trent-Severn Waterway or Rideau Canal. As a result, the tender process is considered unproductive and will be cancelled. Parks Canada will take the necessary time to examine all available options going forward.

Parks Canada understands that the ongoing bridge closure impacts the local community. The Parks Canada project team will ensure this is considered in evaluating available options while remaining committed to ensuring this project ensures the best use of public funds.

Parks Canada would like to thank residents for their patience and understanding, and further updates will be provided as they become available.
