St. Peters Canal National Historic Site
This traditional Mi'kmaq portage route between the Atlantic Ocean and Bras d'Or Lakes saw the rise and fall of a French trading post, settlement, and British hill-top fort. Today you can visit the canal and locks, which permanently linked the two waterways in a feat of 19th-century engineering.
