Daily fun from field to fork

Motherwell Homestead National Historic Site

Golden fields of wheat shimmer under vast prairie skies. See for miles across the flat farmlands, the road outside disappearing into a far-off point on the horizon. Join costume-clad workers for a day of labour on the homestead, fresh-baked bread scenting the air. Join farmhands at a morning milking of the cows, watch the chickens come running at the rattle of the feed bucket.

Dig deep into the recent past and discover the many ways of self-sufficient living. Take in teachings of traditional plant uses, listen the leaves of the shelter belt trees rustle and touch the many different kinds of furs and learn more about the use of animals and land used by the Indigenous communities that surrounded the Homestead.
