Rabbit Creek fire

In May 2018, the Rabbit Creek fire burned an area of approximately 36,665 hectares in the park, with some runs to the south and west of the boundaries on provincial lands. The fire started during a planned prescribed fire operation on the south west side of the park in the Wasstrom’s Flats unit. All available local resources were mobilized and additional resources were called in from across Canada to manage the fire. Parks Canada and provincial counterparts, local rural municipalities and communities worked diligently to ensure that potentially affected residents were informed and safe.
